Thula Seats witnessed the mating ritual of the Red-Billed oxpecker.
The Red-billed Oxpecker (Buphagus erythrorhynchus), are always seen on or around the animals in Kruger National Park, performing a vital part in this ecosystem.
They remove ticks & other small creatures from animals, helping animals to stay tick-free and healthy.
In return for this service the oxpeckers get a meal-on-the-go.
Perfect natural arrangement !
We saw these two oxpeckers during mating season, on the back of a warthog, of all places, and what a sight & performance it was. They would have take the GOLDEN GLOBE for sure.
At night they all meet up, and sleep in dead trees standing in or over water.
They make a loud “TJURR” & “TZIK-TZIK” sound when flying overhead.
Thula Seats offer our clients private airport & lodge transfers, day-tours and Panorama tours from all lodges & camps within the Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa.
